Remember history or you repeat it

My sister (a librarian) sent me an article today about Susan Garten a graduate of Towsen State Teacher College in 1951.  I guess I connected with the story because I have 2 daughters who graduate this year. Sarah got her Masters of Fine Arts from NYU:TISCH in Dramatic Writing and Rebecca will graduate from Glen Oak High School.  I don't want to imagine how upset I would be for them (and me)  if they were denied the opportunity to have everyone acknowledge their accomplishments.
So if you and your love ones are in the midst of graduation  prepping chores, remember to take moments to just enjoy and celebrate  the fact that you have this wonderful life cycle event.

Yarnia Yarn shop Brick and morter LYS Info

My blog got moved as of May 1 and this is the new one.  We are still working out how the store web site moves back and forth.  Today, I pretended I was one of you and happened on the blog and  I suddenly realized that it doesn't tell you how to get hold of the store so here's the info

Yarnia Yarn shop
5880 Fulton Dr NW
Canton OH 44718
330-433-9276
website with store hours (EST) www.yarniashop.com

You can also go to the store class list from here.
You can also go to the links page from here.  The links page will give you links to all the various vendors that we carry in the store.  Obviously we cannot carry all the items from every vendor, but it does give you an idea of what you will find if you travel here.  I like the fact that the many vendors have their own marketing people who put up a web page to inspire how to use their yarns.  Many give you access to free patterns.
The patterns links tell you about the pattern companies that I can get patterns from.

Skacel pdf patterns, Dale of norway patterns

Skacel (distributor of addi needles and many yarns) has some free PDF patterns to download available on their website.
I have the yarn for you to knit the pattern.

I can also provide you with individual Dale of Norway patterns with yarn purchase from the following  books.
204, 211, 213,  and 219 .
The printing costs of books has gone up so I think DON will start offering their new patterns or out of stock books this way instead of printing/reprinting books.  This is all a new business plan so who knows.  Ultimately, they want people to  be successful knitting with their yarn and make a living so they  can pay their employees.
I do still have the following books in stock, so now is the time to purchase them if you love having the patterns all nice and organized in a book.
books in stock: 8501, 8403, 8305, 8103,8102,8101, 210,208, 203,202,197,191, 183.178,166,163,161,160,158,155,147, 140,134,122, 114
I also have the patches for your sweaters.

Back issues of Magazines for sale

I have back issues of Interweave knits, crochet, Knitters, cast on, living craft, holiday gifts, etc for sale.
I made a PDF list of all of them with their prices  (magazines are included in the current sale).
The supply is limited for certain issues I will update the list as availability goes away.

Yarnia Back and current issues of Magazines for sale list.

I just found a Interweave holiday gifts 2008 for 9.99 and so it is not on the above list.  I only have 1.

If this link doesn't work try to cut and paste
http://www.yarniashop.com/Yarnia%20Magazine%20%20issues%20for%20sale%20May%206%202010.pdf

To cut and paste on a PC:
Click at the beginning (the h of http) and hold your finger down on the left side of your mouse while you drag across all the gibberish of the URL until you reach the "f" of pdf.
The gibberish will be highlighted in blue.
Now hit the "ctrl" button and hold it and hit the "c"
Now find your internet and when you have the place you enter the internet stuff,
Now hit the "ctrl" button and hold it and hit the "v"
All the URL should magically be in your internet and you will find the magazine list.

For apple users: you use the little apple or command key instead of the ctrl key.

Dachshund Sweater, Ravelry

There is now a group on Ravelry for Yarnia. (You are welcome to join our group if you have a logon to ravelry.)  Someone posted a link there for a sweater meant for the the long (should be lean, but my Louis is not lean), big chested dachshund. dachshund Sweater

The sweater designer is raising money for a good cause.

I have 2 dachshunds now.  Louie is my big boy who should have been a miniature.  Rosie is a 6 pound dapple.
We lost our 5 pound Heidi of the Jungle last year to heart failure.  It will be interesting to see if the pattern can handle the wide length/size differentiation of my dogs.

If you haven't gotten around to signing up for Ravelry, you should check it out.  It really is a very useful site.

Helga Isager's Olive

Olive has been a very popular pattern from Helga Isager Aminono 08 book.  The book is hard to find because it is out of print.  I sold my last copy a few weeks ago.  Actually, there are several great patterns in the book so if you can find the book in some local LYS,  you should buy it.  If all you want is the Olive sweater you can get it from the Isager website here for the next week at least.  I do have the Isager yarn here in the shop if you get the pattern and want to do in that yarn.   Marianne Isager's yarn line is gorgeous and made with very high standards. I also have the Clara Dress and the Cherry scarf patterns available with the purchase of Isager yarn.

St Denis Magazine #2

The new St Denis book 2 has come in and out of stock twice already  this week.  Veronik Avery has created a lovely sequel to her premier issue book 1.  This one has patterns by Avery, Pam Allen, Jared Flood, etc.
Please call if you want your name put on a book in the next shipment.
I have the Nordique yarn in stock.  The new one that is used in book 2 was not available for shipment yet when I called this last week, but if you need it, give me a call and I can make sure your color is there for you.

I also had a recent run on Aminono by Helga Isager.  The book is out of stock but I do have the Isager yarn.  Some of the Isager patterns are becoming available in PDF or kit.

There has been much discussion recently on whether yarn companies will have books or go to PDF or what.
I personally like having the book.   The ink does not fade and I find it easier to locate my pattern.  While they last I have Dale of Norway books, The first Marianne Isager etc in book format.  With the above sale, it is a good time to pick up some books while the world is still providing hard copies.
