I hope you are all having fun visiting with family and friends and of course having time to knit or crochet.
There are all sorts of links on my links page to the various patterns and yarn companies that I carry.
If you haven't discovered ravelry yet, now might be the time to get a sign on and explore it. Many people have posted their projects on this site and because of this, it is a great place to see a project that interest you already made up or to see how a yarn might knit or crochet up.
Other fun sites to explore if you are on vacation right now.
knitty.com -- patterns.... I still have some of the cookie A deep dark secret sock yarn
Twist collective -- beautiful pictures, pattern and articles. Nice online magazine.
Yarn harlot-- It's funny and well written
Classic Elite web letter -- patterns to show you how to use their beautiful yarn
Pattern from Cat Bordhi to hold your Denise needle interchangeable set (felted knit project)
Cheryl Oberle website
Education links from the knitting guild of america.... I carry the cast on magazine here at Yarnia
There are many classes starting the first week of Jan. If your New Year's resolution is to learn a new skill, now is the time to think about getting registered.

scarves for sale
Normally, we have very little ready made for sale, but I just got a big box of scarves from a customer. Her only request was that the proceeds go to the animal protection league. So if you need scarf already done, have $10 and want the money to go to a good cause, we have just the ticket.

baby surprise, Stephanie Pearl-McPhee
I went looking for a good pic of how to do a nice seam on the baby surprise sweater shoulders tonight for a student. The garter stitch edge of each side runs in two different directions. This is tricky because it is one of the more unusual seams to have to do. I found a good close picture of the seam in progess on Stephanie Pearl -McPhee's (The yarn Harlot) website.
If you haven't heard of her, do yourself a favor and check out her blog and her books. They are very entertaining and actually have a lot of insight into human nature. Besides, I have found many a good knitting tip on this site. (like how to fix a miss crossed cable when the sweater is finished, seamed and done done done) Of course there is always the one about the fiber stealing squirrel
or the project that didn't want to start. On this last on, I am not enjoying her pain. I just find it comforting that even a very good knitter can have one of those moments when the path from the directions to the hands is not smooth.
A couple of other Notes on the baby surprise seam:
It pays to
1. Check to see if you have folded the sweater right side out. The miter is differerent looking but very subtle. 2. Take time to pin the shoulders together at various points so you will not be trying to fudge in a big bunch of fabric at the end. The two edges stretch out differently.

new patterns
The 2 latest patterns from knitspot just arrived.
Cornrows (full mittens and hat set)
Matterhorn (fingerless mitts, hat and scarf set).
I am updating the class list tonight and there should be new printouts available in the box outside the shop by tomorrow.
I had a customer ask a question Sat that caused me to pull out a trusty book. It is called the book of patterns by Ann Budd. I love this book. Basically, it allows you to figure out a pattern for whatever gauge yarn you have.
For example, Hats. It gives you 5 or 6 different gauge yarns
and then it uses them in size premie to adult male. This formula style allows you to make a basic hat with any yarn. The book has this same information for other knitted pieces as well.

It mid dec already
Now in stock the Latavian mitten from Lizbeth Upitis and the green sweater by Sunday Holm (based on an actual Elizabeth Zimmerman sweater). Both join other patterns from Schoolhouse Press that we have in stock.
The multidirectional scarf pattern from Ann Norling is back in stock. Basically, it a garter stitch scarf, but the little clever technique makes it more entertaining to do and it looks complicated.
New solid colors of opal fingering weight yarn arrived. These are great to use alone or to add bands of color to your variegated sock yarn. They also come in handy to help you use your leftovers. I have many different ones in stock.
The very popular mini mochi (fingering weight) yarn now comes also as mochi plus (worsted weight). It changes color in a subtle pretty way and is very soft. Either of these can be used in the above mulitdirectional scarf for great effect. (Noro or Tapestry from Rowan or vero from fiber trends etc also make a great MulitDirectional scarf).
I don't know why but I find living craft and wild fibers magazine a very relaxing read. I just realized that the living craft magazine website has free patterns in their craft room. If you go to the living craft site you can see what is in the issue and if you look on the top and click on "craft room", you can check out the pattern.
Still thinking gifts: Glimarka swift, royal ball winder, needle sets (addi, Denise, brittany) all come to mind. We have gift cards that can be loaded with any amount if you don't know what to buy.
Knit kits that make a great stocking stuffer will arrive next week. They now come in black.

bekka knits, kate jackson, coco knits and lornas laces.
New patterns that arrived today. Nov ruffle wrap by Kate Jackson
Baby and toddler moc a sock and baby sweet pea (which BTW is a class coming up in Jan taught by Lynn)
Loafer by coco knits
New colors of Lorna's Laces in sock, sport and worsted weight also arrived today.
Finally, a back order of Classic Elite silky alpaca came in.
I have been working on a alp oriental wrap from Feza yarn. It is a super easy and really beautiful piece that knits up fast. Come in and take a look. I have small samples of all the various colorways for you to look at.
The following picture does not do the yarn justice. It has a lot more sparkly and texture than shows in the picture. This is a fast knit on a size 15 or 17 needle.
