The items above were in my knitting guild of america newsletter. I carry the cast on magazine at Yarnia.
This magazine is only available at yarn shops. There are a number of good patterns in each issue and a lot of good technique tips. This is a great magazine for gradually adding to your knitting skills.
Because some of you have procrastinated, you might like to know that I will be open this Sunday 11-3. That is the last day of the big January sale.

new patterns
Please note that store will not open until noon on Friday, Jan 29. Also store will be open an extra day Sunday Jan 31 11-3.
I recently got a newsletter from Schoolhouse Press. There is a lot of good information in it. I carry their patterns including the new Green Sweater.
Some new patterns are coming soon. Maylie from Marie Grace, May ruffle from Kate Jackson Knits, sweaters from Knitbot like the Lightweight Pullover, Daybreak from Westknits, Robin hood by Grace Akhrem, and a bunch of patterns from Ysolda Teague
Roxanne (the crochet teacher) brought in the cutest crochet hearts this week. I will be adding it to the class list soon.

Series of random thoughts....
- I found this cute bootie that is constructed from squares on Susan Anderson's website. I love her itty bitty toys and nursery books.
- Have you checked out the latest Interweave Crochet? As I thought, with the new Denise interchangeable crochet set, there will be new patterns coming in tunisian crochet. These needles make it easy to learn this interesting crochet form. These needles are also handy for picking up stitches for your knitting around a sweater band or bag.
- New patterns will be here in Feb from Isolda Teague, Kate Jackson, Westknits, etc.
- Yarn forward magazine has some great patterns for Rowan yarns which we carry at Yarnia
- Have you checked out the latest issue of Knitty?
- Have you checked out the latest issue of Twist Collective?
- all sorts of patterns are available on the Kramer Yarns Website. We carry there yarns here at Yarnia.

Miep Gies died this past Monday. She was 100 years old. She is one of the non jews who helped Anne Frank's family to hide in Amsterdam during WWII. She is the person who saved Anne's papers and gave them to his father after the war. People often wanted to portray her as a hero and the following quote shows that while she may not have considered herself to be a hero, I feel she is definitely someone to hold up as a role model. The world is certainly a better place when ordinary people do their human duty.
"Imagine young people would grow up with the feeling that you have to be a hero to do your human duty. I am afraid nobody would ever help other people, because who is a hero? I was not. I was just an ordinary housewife and secretary." ---Miep Gies

I don't want to count it
I picked up a book I hadn't read in awhile and I highly recommend it. Gift from the sea by Anne Lindbergh.
She definitely gets you thinking about how to center you life and how to keep things/people/events from pulling you like a centrifuge away from yourself. Everyone has ways, but I think knitting and crochet are one way that people find to feel creative and have "alone" time.
Don;t forget the "I don't want to count it" sale. It goes on through January. If I have a good email for you, you got an email and if I have an address you got a snail mail post card.
If you got neither, then either you did not give me the information or I typed it wrong. So, come in enjoy the sale and you can give me good info if you want to keep updated.
Yarn, books, needles are all on sale.
By the way, when you look at a bin in a yarn shop, you often are looking at the color choices (unless we sold all of a color out of a bin and haven't restocked it yet). Here at Yarnia, I find it easier to keep the extras in the back in a bag instead of taking the bin apart to look for them. If the one or two balls you see are not enough for your project, please ask. We have a lot of back stock (hence the sale). I could have 30 of that yarn that you think I only have 2 skeins of. It is also worth asking if I have the color you want, in case it is not stocked on the shelf at the moment, especially during a sale.
Looking for some interesting double knit patterns... check out Esther Smith Bozak's site see the reversible scarves article.

Annemore Sundbo "Ragpile",Piecework
The 4th annual historical knitting issue of Piecework is quite interesting. Great stories, interesting patterns (including a new one from Barbara Walker).
I read about the following link in this issue. Annemore Sundbo has created this great website that shows many many pictures of Traditional knitted items from Norway. You should really check it out.

sale, cute scarves
Time for a sale. A big "we don't want to count it" sale. I will be sending the details to all that I have good email addresses for. (If you gave me an email address and you haven't been receiving our emails, it means that I either couldn't read your handwriting or I am a lousy typist and the one I have needs to be corrected.)
I also have a post card that will be going out.
There will be short hours the week of Jan 17-23 so please check the website before heading to the store that week so you are not disappointed.
I found this really cute burberry inspired scarf on Julianne's blog that uses the cascade venezia (which I have )
I also found some nice patterns on Nicky Epsteins website. If you click on the "goodies" bar, you will find the most recent free pattern she offers. If you go to her blog, there is a pattern for a cute slouchy bow hat in mini mochi from crystal palace(which I also have in stock) in the Dec 8 entry
